170th Australia Day Regatta
What a great day, we actually beat two boats in on scratch even though your skipper continues with troubles in light weather starts and a little problem with spinnaker sets and Gybes. We were actually photographed on the final leg in full flight where we made up 4 minutes on the fleet, which gives great encouragement for the BMW spinnaker series later this year Thanks to everyone for the effort and good humour I have included the photo on the front of the WEB site.
St Arnou Wednesday Night Twilights
Wednesday 11th January
We're Back, this has to be the windiest twilight season ever 25 - 30 knots plus, the number of collisions and retirements is testament the conditions. We had a terrible start due to a C Division Boat cruising up the start line and lost a full minute. The first and second leg we made up a huge amount of time, I think we were a little overpowered on the main and keep that in mind for next time. All in all to get 6th place was a great effort and we all may be a little weary but should be pretty proud, I am still learning a lot about the boat but having a good regular crew makes it a lot easier.
Wednesday 7th December
T-Boned - We got hit and we were leading our division, the damage whilst extensive was not boat threatening unlike the Bavaria with a hole in the bow. Thanks to the quick action of the crew and the assistance with the protest form, we won the first hearing then lost the second. I will publish the complete decision later as I am still a little frustrated with the findings. The race was amazing including the Jibe in a 40knot gust, I don't think the wind got below 30 all day.
Wednesday 30Th November
Well it had to happen one day, SineWave's poor light wind performance resulted in a did not finish, yes we were a mile behind the fleet at the top mark. However not completely doom and gloom, I have never seen this before, the results show only 5 boats in A division, 2 (yes 2) Boats in
B division and 6 in C Division completed the race last night.
Wednesday 23rd November
What a lovely race 8th out of 30 starters, we sailed the correct course unlike a number of other boats and started right on time again unlike many others. A nice reach all the way up the harbour, 2 tacks to go around Shark Island and a reach all the way home. It doesn't get much better, to get over the midweek blues.
Two more races until the Christmas break, next week is significant, the Lovely Daphne is leaving town for three months travel in South America.
Wednesday 9th November
A personal thanks to everyone for what turned out to be a big sail, as one other skipper said as I was leavening "it blew out a few cobwebs" and a few boats looking at the retirees. What a difference one week, one more lost batten and 4 minutes makes, we unfortunately finished last out of 22 boats to complete division B. On the bright side we just earned three minutes off the handicap so I think that brings us back to square after two weeks.
Wednesday 2nd November
Well crew a promising start 12th out of 28 boats, pity about the mess getting into the dock I am going to talk to the dock master to see if we can snag a birth on Wednesday nights rather than fight it out in the pond. The boat felt a little tight and clearly needs the rig looked at as we sailed better on Port tack than on Starboard, I will hopefully get that looked at before the next race. Sterling job undertaken by all a bet there are a few sore muscles this morning. Interesting start, I think we could work on the Port tack approach form the bottom of the line as it avoids the mess at the start boat end, let me know what you think.
